The Jones

Being a photographer here in Bellingham can be challenging-- especially when trying to captures portraits in the winter. I thought I would share some portraits from this photo shoot because it was an interesting morning to capture family portraits. I took the portraits at the Jones' home, so I didn't know what photographic opportunities I was going to have before I arrived, which forced me to think on my feet. Unfortunately, the sun was so bright that morning that my options for well-balanced photos were very limited. I captured a few shots on the shade side of the house, some inside, and then we moved a bench to a patch of shade in the back yard. Even after carefully choosing all the locations, I still had to refine each picture very carefully in photoshop. Oh, and did I mention the youngest Jones wasn't too thrilled about the whole family portrait thing?

The Dahls

Here are some pictures of a shoot I did with the Dahls. Michelle is a teacher here at Bellingham Christian with me. This was a pretty quick shoot because her boys had apparently expressed a strong desire to watch the Seahawks game that afternoon. (Of course I could totally identify with that. Here are couple of less traditional family portraits that I thought were interesting.

Chris and Caitlin

I had the opportunity this last November to shoot Chris and Caitlyn's engagement portraits. I really enjoyed doing an engagement shoot because there were only two people I had to worry about posing and so we could be more creative. Also, since they liked each other, we could do more intimate poses.

The Shupe/Radtkes

This was my second effort at family portraiture. There were something like 26 people there (I suppose I could count in the pirctures to make sure) and it was a fun challenge to get everyone's attention (at the same time). This day was also a challenge due to very harsh sunlight, but I was able to learn a lot and I couldn't have asked for a better family to work with.

The Heeringas

The Heeringas were the first family for whom I had the opportunity to create portraits, and what a way to begin! It was a perfect day for photography, and their energetic kids provided plenty of opportunities for fun candid shots.
